Halfway Reflection
"Can you meet me halfway?"—the most influential music group of the 21st century (aka The Black Eyed Peas).
Tenacity is competency. The biggest advice for this course is simply to stay on top of the assignments. I have found that waiting until Friday night to finish my posts has left me not only feeling stressed but also completing subpar work, which doesn't reflect my usual work ethic. I try to complete at least one post by Tuesday or Wednesday so that way I'm not as stressed out or rushing on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Tenaciousness is about attitude. Last week, I seriously considered just not doing the elevator pitch video. It was Friday evening and I was just feeling sort of lazy. The next day was a game day and I just wanted to sit around with my roommates and plan for the day's activities. I rationed that it would only be three points that I was forfeiting and I could still get an A in the class. Ultimately, I decided to just film the video because it wouldn't be that hard and it would help me in the long run when I have to do an elevator pitch for real. Also, I knew that there would be an elevator pitch number two in the future and I wanted to have something to build upon when the time for that assignment came. I feel like I have become a bit more tenacious over the last months just by having to work through stress and laziness in order to better myself.
Three Tips. 1. First and foremost, do your work as ahead as possible. It's very inconvenient and stressful having to try to create a good post on Friday night when all of your friends are headed to Mid. Getting more than just a few days ahead is super helpful too, especially when you have exams and projects to do in other classes. Just take advantage of the platform that allows you to work at your own pace and do as much as you can in the start.
2. Make your blog interesting! Add pictures and jokes and make it entertaining for others to read because, guess what, people WILL be reading it. (They have to it's required.) Make it something that reflects your personality because then the assignments might feel just a little less like assignments and more like things you are doing to help yourself become a better entrepreneur.
3. Lastly, try your best. This sort of goes along with what I said in the last point, but don't half-ass it. I mean you don't have to be in Gator Squad or make each post over the top (I get it there are times when you're tired so a mediocre post will have to do), but just try your best on as many posts as you can because, at the end of the day, you get out of this class what you put into it.
Morgan, great reflection. In what ways do you think that you will further advance yourself from this class that will help you out in the long run? I do believe that this class as absolutely helped us with organizing and the ability to work pretty much at our own pace. It is nice to be able to work ahead and get ahead of yourself in order to focus some time elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteMorgan,
ReplyDeleteI agree that making your blog post interesting and funny makes other people want to read it. Coming from me, I love to read peoples' posts that are entertaining. I would love for other peoples' blogs to be funny, so everyone can actually enjoy this class, instead of just think of this class as a stupid class. To be honest, this class has actually made me become more funny and more of a writer.
Hey Morgan, I love the Ron Swanson gif. I agree that you need to keep your blog interesting and fun because it makes the work a bit more fun and you can make it your own. Especially since people are required to do these posts, make it enjoyable with funny pictures and gifs. And i like the tip of trying to get the work done early so you don't have to type a blog post on your phone on your way to Rowdys.
