Idea Napkin, Pt. 2
1) YOU. Due to the fact that I am a fairly intense people pleaser and enjoy listening to other's thoughts, I think that I could help my t-shirt company to be very responsive to the general public's likes and dislikes in order to create products that will sell best. My skill set would also include my creativity. Despite not being able to actually draw, I can articulate what I believe would look cute or trendy as a t-shirt and then have someone who is better at actually drawing create the design. As far as aspirations, if I were to start the company, I think that it would fit into my life as a central point. I
would love to be able to do something that I actually care about as opposed to doing something that requires me to just carry out mindless tasks.
2) What Are You Offering to Customers? I am offering customers an opportunity to purchase better quality and more affordable t-shirts. They have the option to get "like-vintage" clothes without the hassle of going to the thrift store. Furthermore, they can find trendy, cute tees in one easy to access place.
3) Who Are You Offering It To? They key demographic for my company would be young people, both male and female, specifically those ages 14-early 20's. It would cater to those with a similar short of punk rock style and would produce new designs monthly or so. For all the customers, their main concerns would be quality, affordability, and style.
4) Why Do They Care? Customers care because they want high quality shirts but dont want to break the bank. Plus, with a resurgence of a 90's sort of style aesthetic, trendy vintage inspired tees are in demand right now. Following this sociocultural trend, I think that customers would care for a company which specialized in shirts focusing on this atheistic.
5) What Are Your Core Competencies? My company would be different from all other t-shirt companies specifically because we aren't vintage, we are vintage-like. This would keep costs down as we wouldn't have to go through the time and trouble of thrifts as some companies with a similar vision do, rather we could just focus the design process and the quality. Furthermore, we would put a heavy emphasis on the quality of the shirts. The company would emphasis the fact that our clothes won't fall apart after one wash. The company would be able to keep costs down by outsourcing the manufacturing, like most companies do. However, we would still ensure quality by keeping a strict eye on the process and having a vetting process for each shirt to make sure that we're delivering the best possible product to customers.
Reflection: I believe that these qualities fit together as many of them overlap and correspond with each other. The customer who I'm trying to cater to is the one who would most frequently experience the problem of low quality or too expensive t-shirts. I think that, for the most part, my inability to actually create art might be an issue in a company with a heavy emphasis on design. However, I think that if I were to get a partner who could put my thoughts into actual creation it would work out.
Feedback Memo: Between the first and the second idea napkin, I changed who the customer base would be a little bit. Instead of focusing on just girls, I added that the customer would be both male and female. I think this would be better because it widens the market that I'm trying to serve. In addition, I wanted the t-shirts to be unisex anyway, so marketing to guys as well as girls would be easy. Also, I added in a bit about how the company would be different because it would be customer centric. All shirts will be vetted for the upmost quality and the company will be extremely open to feedback.

Hi there again Morgan. Great post!! I like the changes that you made in this idea napkin. I like the addition of adding male customers because I would definitely be a customer. I also like the addition of being customer-centric, I feel this is something that a lot of retail company miss out on. I would definitely make your product stand out!
ReplyDeleteHey Morgan, great to see you evolve and adapt to the changing customer base and ideas that they have given you through your interviews. I hope that you do not veer too far off from your original idea as I think your customer base is endless and fills a void in the market.
